CIDLeS - Centro Interdisciplinar de Documentação Linguística e Social

CIDLeS is an interdisciplinary non-profit centre dedicated to the documentation and preservation of the linguistic (and cultural) heritage in Europe. It was founded in January 2010 as a result of the work of a number of researchers at the Institute of General Linguistics and Language Typology at the University of Munich, at the Department of Portuguese Studies at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and the city of Alcanena. CIDLeS is, however, totally independent from any of these institutions. The Centre is located in Minde, a village in the municipality of Alcanena, district of Santarém, Portugal.

Mission

The focus of CIDLeS is on basic scientific research in linguistics in the broadest sense, as defined and supported by the program "Future and Emerging Technologies" of the European Union. CIDLeS cooperates with universities and companies, but works independently of them. CIDLeS has research goals that, due to the need of a broad transdisciplinary approach or the lack of certain resources, can not be pursued by other facilities engaged in basic scientific research.

Research projects will always serve the general public and are designed to create clusters of excellence in specific research areas (language and social documentation and general linguistics) to complement the research carried out at universities and other scientific organizations.
